Description

Product Overview

The GE IS200TREGH1BEC is a Trip Emergency Terminal board built for the GE Speedtronic Mark VI and Mark VIe turbine control platform. It is the hardware execution layer behind every emergency turbine shutdown, sitting between the voting processor and the field trip solenoids.

This board takes discrete trip commands from the VPRO voting processor, applies hardware-level three-out-of-three (3oo3) relay voting, and then energises three heavy-duty emergency trip solenoids directly. The design is deliberately fail-safe: the solenoids stay energised during normal operation, and loss of power or logic signal drops the turbine trip.

The “BEC” suffix marks a conformal-coated revision of the H1B family. The board carries twelve on-board relays, isolates the 28 VDC logic side from the 125 VDC solenoid drive side, and mounts as a standard rack slot unit. It exists because a turbine needs a reliable shutdown path even when the main controller software is hung.

Core Product Features

  • Hardware 3oo3 voting logic across nine trip relays means all three redundant channels must agree before a trip command reaches the solenoids, which prevents spurious trips from a single faulty channel.
  • Three additional feedback relays confirm solenoid state back to the control system, so operators see whether a trip actually executed.
  • Twelve form-C relays handle the switching, with the trip side running at 125 VDC sourced from the plant’s external power distribution panel.
  • The 28 VDC logic supply comes from the VPRO/TREG processor board, keeping control and field power on separate rails.
  • De-energise-to-trip design follows fail-safe principles: a broken wire, lost supply or dead relay drops the turbine rather than leaving it running.
  • Galvanic isolation between logic and field sides blocks ground loops and surge energy from the high-current solenoid circuits.
  • Conformal coating on the BEC revision resists dust, humidity and corrosive atmospheres in turbine halls.
  • Front-panel status LEDs and visible relay coils let technicians verify circuit health without probing live wiring.

Some distributor listings quote 24 VDC solenoid drive or 2-channel A/B redundancy. The 125 VDC trip rail and 3oo3 three-channel voting come from the field documentation and the relay count on the board itself, so treat those as the working baseline and confirm the field supply voltage before wiring a spare.

Product Details and Application Fields

Product Details

Where it sits in the chain. The VPRO voting processor decides whether a trip condition exists. This TREG board does the heavy lifting: it switches 125 VDC to the solenoids. Software never touches the solenoid wiring directly, which is the whole safety design.

How 3oo3 works. Three redundant processor channels each drive three voting relays on this board. A trip solenoid only de-energises when all three channels vote the same way. One stuck or noisy channel cannot shut the turbine down, and one failed relay cannot prevent a needed trip.

Feedback path. The three feedback relays mirror solenoid current flow back to the controller. If the processor commands a trip but the feedback contacts disagree, the system flags a solenoid fault immediately instead of discovering it on the next run-up.

Fail-safe wiring. Solenoids energise to keep the turbine running. Cut the wire, lose the 125 VDC supply, or burn out a relay contact, and the turbine trips on its own. This is why wiring checks on this board are treated as safety-critical work.

Revision context. BEC is a conformal-coated revision of the H1B family. Earlier ACA and AAA variants share the slot but may differ in relay layout and terminal assignment. Photograph the original board’s wiring before pulling it, because swapping revisions without re-verifying the field wiring is a classic outage mistake.

Maintenance caution. Because this board drives trip solenoids, any bench test or relay replacement must follow the plant’s lockout and turbine trip procedure. A bench test that accidentally fires a solenoid while the unit is online is not a trivial mistake.

Application Fields

  • Emergency overspeed and overspeed-test trip loops for gas and steam turbines in thermal power plants
  • Turbine protection systems in combined-cycle and cogeneration facilities
  • Compressor and train emergency shutdown circuits in oil & gas production and refining
  • Generator protection and trip interfacing in EX2100 excitation systems
  • Nuclear and critical infrastructure turbine protection where hardware voting is required
  • Legacy Mark VI protection system spare stocking and relay-level maintenance
